Description
The Air Disc Service Brake Chamber uses air pressure to activate the piston.
HOW IT WORKS
When the truck service brake (foot brake pedal) is applied, the air brake chamber receives high-pressure air, which forces the piston to move. As the piston moves, it forces the internal spring inside the brake chamber to compress while pushing a pushrod on the opposite side of the chambers to move. The pushrod pushes the brake pads against the brake disc to slow the truck wheels down. When the service brake is released, high-pressure air is released from the piston, which allows the compressed spring to relax and move the brake pads away from the brake disc, allowing the truck wheels to move freely again.
WHY IT MATTERS
A properly working service brake prevents accidents or damage to people and equipment by slowing or stopping the vehicle.
