Description
The Air Disc Spring Brake Chamber uses air pressure to activate the diaphragm.
HOW IT WORKS
When the truck parking brake is engaged, the air brake chamber will receive high-pressure air, which forces the diaphragm to move. As the diaphragm moves, it forces the internal spring inside the brake chamber to compress while pushing a pushrod on the opposite side of the chamber. The pushrod pushes the brake pads against the brake disc to prevent the truck from moving. When the parking brake is disengaged, high-pressure air is released from the diaphragm, which allows the compressed spring to relax and move the brake pad away from the brake disc, allowing the truck to move when ready.
WHY IT MATTERS
A properly working parking brake prevents accidents or damage to people and equipment by preventing the vehicle from moving.
